US wind energy installations now exceed 10,000 megawatts (MW) in generating capacity, and produce enough electricity on a typical day to power the equivalent of over 2.5 million homes, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

The record growth in wind power is driven by demand for the popular energy source and concerns over fuel price volatility and supply. It was also made possible by a timely renewal of the production tax credit (PTC), a federal incentive extended in the Energy Policy Act signed a year ago by President Bush.

Hari ini sekitar 100-an mahasiswa baru Jurusan Teknik Fisika mengunjungi Gedung Kuliah Jurusan Teknik Fisika. Begitu tiba di kampus JTF, mereka langsung disambut oleh panitia dari KMTF. Walaupun dengan kondisi yang cukup letih setelah mengikuti acara Platinum, mereka cukup bersemangat (Platinum : acara Ospek Fakultas Teknik 2006).

Acara ini dimulai dengan sambutan dari Ketua Jurusan Teknik Fisika, Dr.–Ing. Kusnanto. Dalam sesi ini sebagian besar staf pengajar dan karyawan bagian pengajaran diperkenalkan kepada mahasiswa baru. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study and are awarded based on character, personal merit and commitment. Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed.

How to Apply
Students must submit an essay of no more than 500 words explaining how they are fulfilling the criteria mentioned above.

Temperature calibration provides a means of quantifying uncertainties in temperature measurement in order to optimise sensor and/or system accuracies.

Uncertainties result from various factors, including: sensor tolerances, which are usually specified according to published standards and manufacturers specifications; instrumentation (measurement) inaccuracies, again specified in manufacturers specifications; drift in the characteristics of the sensor due to temperature cycling and ageing; possible thermal effects resulting from the installation, for example thermal voltages created at interconnection junctions. Pluto aficionados, rejoice! Pluto is a planet. So are the giant asteroid Ceres, Pluto’s moon Charon, and a large outer-solar system object called 2003 UB313. The solar system has 12 planets instead of the familiar 9, according to a proposal that the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) will vote on next week in Prague, Czech Republic.

The IAU had asked a panel of seven astronomers, writers, and historians to better define what constitutes a planet. According to that panel’s proposal, announced this week in Prague, a planet is any body that orbits a star, is neither a star nor a satellite of a planet, and has gravity strong enough to pull it into a rounded shape. Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa saat ini dunia sedang mengalami krisis energi. Bahkan banyak ahli yang berpendapat dibalik serangan Amerika Serikat ke Timur Tengah adalah untuk mencari minyak. Karena memang minyaklah sebagai salah satu sumber energi yang paling krusial saat ini. Padahal cadangannyan hanya tinggal sedikit.

Kini perusahaan - perusahaan energi (yang kebanyakan juga adalah pemain di bisnis perminyakan) sudah mulai mencari alternatif energi baru. Kemerdekaan dari kebodohan, ketertinggalan, kedisintegrasian dan keasusilaan. Marilah kita sejenak merefleksikan kemerdekaan Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia ini. Compared to their oil-business counterparts in the likes of Saudi Arabia, South Africa’s new energy ‘sheiks’ lead fairly ordinary lives.Many have a bakkie in the driveway, a tractor in the shed and boast membership of the local agricultural co-op.

While Saudis may pump mineral oil from desert wells, South Africa’s farmers harvest maize, sunflower, sugar cane, soybeans, sorghumand sugar beet as feedstock for petrol and diesel manufacture.

And, while today’s Middle Eastern oil wells will eventually run dry, South Africa’s farmers enjoy infinite supply horizons, courtesy of their renewable crops.

Southern Africa Biofuels Association (Saba) CEO Erhard Seiler tells Engineering News that the local biofuels industry has the potentialto produce 10% of South Africa’s petrol anddiesel by 2010. South Africa currently consumes about 11-billion litres of petrol and 8-billion litres ofdiesel a year.
